Overview of "The ChatGPT Handbook for Project Managers"

How many of you project managers are using Chat GPT or some other form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Large Language Model (LLM)?

Hopefully a few of you are at least using it. Because according to PMI, AI is the way of the future. They have even built a few great courses on how to use it as a PM.

But, knowing how to use it and knowing what to ask it are two different things.

This book helps those who are struggling with how exactly to use AI and LLM’s to help improve their effectiveness and efficiency as a Project Manager.

Chapter Breakdown

Who Should Read?

As you can see from the chapter breakdown, this book “walks the dog” from reflection on the development of ChaptGPT to actionable insights for Project Managers.

Whether you are new to project management or a seasoned project manager, you will find something useful for managing your projects.

Especially anyone who wants to:

  • Automate Mundane Tasks
  • Create Extensive Project Documents with Ease
  • Create Presentations Quickly
  • Evaluate Resource Allocation without Losing Your Minds
  • Proactive Risk Management for Anticipating and Reducing Risk Impacts
  • Reducing Decision Making Timelines Through Analyzing Past Projects and using Data to Anticipate Future Actions
And if you have no prompt engineering background, Chapter 3 is for you!

Anyone who has been using ChatGPT knows your prompt is what makes the outcome of your ask.

What takes most people hours of practicing and research, this book breaks down prompt engineering tips and tricks that even some experienced ChatGPT professionals can use for their projects. All in Chapter 4 – 16. With Chapter 3 being a great explanation of how to use and build prompts for ChatGPT.

So, if you are want to know how to use ChatGPT as a Project Manager, there is no need to look any further. Pick up this book and start learning how to use ChatGPT as a Project Manager today!

Good, Thumbs Up,

What I Enjoyed About The Book:

The ChatGPT Handbook for Project Managers was a surprisingly good book.

I got it thinking I had a good idea on how to use Project Management ChatGPT prompts, but this book broke down prompts and different ways to use ChatGPT to better manage projects. From Risk Management to Resource Management, this book gives you fantastic ways save time and money on your projects.

And, if you know how to build your own GPT’s, this book mixed with your own GPT could create an amazing Lessons Learned Registry.

The hardest part of a  lessons learned registry is searching it for points you need for your current project. Instead, using ChatGPT and creating your own GPT, you can easily create a resource that’ll save you hours! And save your time, money, and stress with everything from risks to resources, scheduling, and finances.

The author ends the books with a comment around the impact of AI on project management.

And I couldn’t agree any more.

This book was a great resource for me. A book that I will keep close by and use whenever I am managing a project and need help with getting the mind moving.

And over time, I can only hope to add tot he prompts given in this book, increasing my ability to lean into AI and LLM as a project manager!

Thumbs Down

What I Didn’t Enjoy About The Book:

There is not a lot to not enjoy about The ChatGPT Handbook for Project Managers

The things I usually look for with graphs, pictures, and examples are littered throughout the book. The prompts and examples of results really help when doing using the prompts in real time.

But, given that, I think this book could use some more juice behind it. This is the version 1 of this book, and I would like to see in future iterations some more explanations of how to follow up with Chat GPT responses.

Example being with Trend Analysis and Forecasting (pg. 134), Louis gives a detailed prompt with the response ChatGPT gave him. He then follows that with Data Privacy Considerations.

What you don’t see is the follow on prompts/questions.

Future iterations of this book would benefit with the follow on questions/prompts. How do you narrow down the ChatGPT results to what you need and/or validate responses.

Overall Rating:

This book is worth picking up. You are guaranteed to learn something you can start using today on your projects.
